RockPool
Created in acrylic with Essex sea salt and gold leaf- RockPool is an abstract expression of the hidden worlds that exist where land meets sea. Inspired by the tidal pools of the Essex coastline, the painting explores the constant dialogue between movement and stillness, permanence and change.
Rather than representing a literal landscape, the work captures the feeling of looking into a rockpool, where light dances across water, textures emerge beneath the surface, and life exists in quiet abundance. The layered paint, enriched with natural Essex sea salt, creates organic textures that echo weathered stone, shifting tides and crystallised salt left behind by the retreating sea.
The gold leaf circles punctuate the composition like moments of discovery. They suggest sunlight reflected on the water’s surface, air bubbles suspended in time, or the tiny marine worlds that reveal themselves only when we pause to look closely. Their luminous presence contrasts with the raw textures beneath, celebrating the unexpected beauty found within nature’s smallest details.
Each gesture responds to memory, atmosphere and emotion, creating a visual experience rather than a depiction of place. RockPool invites the viewer to slow down, look beneath the surface and find their own connection to the rhythms, textures and quiet wonder of the Essex coast.

TideLight
Created using acrylic paint and gathered sea salt, TideLight is an emotional response to the quiet rhythm of the Essex coastline. Rather than depicting a specific place, it captures the feeling of standing on the salt marsh as the tide slowly withdraws, leaving pools that mirror the changing sky. As the salt dries within the paint it forms its own crystalline landscape, echoing the natural patterns left behind on the mudflats.
I paint with my hands, allowing instinct to guide each movement until memory becomes texture. The salt is not simply a material but part of the landscape itself, carrying the character of the shoreline into the painting. Dark currents weave through luminous blues like hidden creeks, while scattered marks suggest fragments of shell, seaweed and weathered stone caught in the retreating water.
This work is less about the sea than about the light it leaves behind -a reminder that even after the tide has gone, traces of its presence remain.

Cathedral
C
Cathedral was inspired by the quiet beauty of light passing through the stained glass windows of a 13th century church. Created using acrylic paint and ancient stone gathered from the church grounds, the painting carries a physical connection to the place that first stirred the work.
The changing light, softened by centuries old glass, settled across worn stone and seemed to dissolve into colour and memory. Rather than painting the church itself, I wanted to capture that fleeting atmosphere and the feeling of standing within it. Layers of paint are built and scraped back, allowing light to emerge through the surface in the same way it slowly revealed itself within the ancient building.
For me, this painting is about the way places hold traces of time. The gathered stone becomes part of the work, carrying with it a history that continues beyond the canvas.

WaterLily
WaterLily was inspired by the stillness of a summer afternoon spent walking beside the river. The painting incorporates dried waterlily petals gathered from the water’s edge, carrying with them the quiet memory of that place. Gentle reflections drift across the surface, while the sweeping forms echo the graceful movement of an overhanging weeping willow. Layers of acrylic create a soft atmospheric haze, capturing the warmth of sunlight suspended in the air and the fleeting tranquillity of the moment. Rather than painting the landscape itself, this work explores the feeling of being immersed within it. Here, light, memory and nature dissolve into one another.

StormLight
Created using acrylic paint infused with Essex sea salt gathered from the coastline that inspired it. Rather than simply depicting the sea, I wanted to capture the feeling of standing before it in that quiet moment when heavy skies begin to break and light still finds its way through.
The sea salt became more than a material. It reacted naturally with the paint, creating textures I couldn’t fully predict or control. Instead of resisting that unpredictability, I worked with it.

Gougane Barra
Gougane Barra was inspired by the quiet woodland reflections found within one of Ireland’s oldest forest landscapes. Created in acrylic with gold leaf, the painting explores the way light settles across still water & where the surrounding trees dissolve into shifting layers of colour and texture.
Rather than painting the woodland itself, I wanted to capture the feeling of standing beside the water as the changing light transformed the landscape from one moment to the next. The reflections became almost abstract, where sky, branches and water merged into a single surface.
The gold leaf catches the light as the painting changes throughout the day, echoing those fleeting moments when sunlight breaks through the canopy before disappearing again. Like much of my work, Gougane Barra is less about recording a place and more about holding onto the memory of being there.

Undertow
Created in acrylic and infused with natural sea salt gathered from the Essex coastline, Salt Water explores the unseen force and movement that lie beneath the sea’s surface. Rather than portraying the ocean as a landscape, the painting captures its energy, its ability to draw us in, surround us and quietly transform everything it touches.
The swirling composition evokes the rhythm of tides, underwater currents and the ever-changing relationship between water and light. As the paint dried, the sea salt became an active collaborator in the creative process, forming crystalline textures that could never be replicated by brush alone. These organic patterns echo the natural processes of evaporation, erosion and renewal that continually shape the Essex coast.
SaltMarsh
Created with acrylic paint, ground natural seeds and delicate gold leaf, SaltMarsh is inspired by the tranquil landscapes of the Essex coast, where land and sea exist in constant conversation. The painting seeks not to represent a particular location, but to capture the atmosphere of the salt marshes, their vast skies, muted horizons and quiet sense of stillness.
The soft layers of colour reflect the changing light that settles across the marsh throughout the day, where water mirrors the sky and boundaries between earth, sea and air become almost indistinguishable. Ground sea lavender and thrift seeds are embedded within the paint, forming an organic connection to the resilient vegetation that thrives in these unique coastal environments. Their presence speaks of growth, renewal and the remarkable ability of nature to flourish under the influence of wind, salt and tide.
Fragments of gold leaf emerge gently from the composition, catching the light like fleeting reflections on shallow water or the final glow of the setting sun across the marsh. Rather than dominating the surface, they offer quiet moments of luminosity, inviting the viewer to pause and discover beauty within the landscape’s subtle details.
SaltMarsh is an emotional response to place rather than a literal depiction. It reflects my continuing exploration of the Essex coastline, using natural materials gathered from the landscape itself to create works that embody both its physical presence and its enduring spirit.

Gaia
Gaia is a reflection on the Earth as one living body. Created with acrylic paint and gathered natural materials from all seven continents, the painting brings together elements that have been shaped by different climates, landscapes and histories before finding a place within a single surface. Gold from Ireland, Wales and Australia catches the light, while salts from the Mediterranean, North Sea and Red Sea crystallise naturally within the paint, leaving textures that could never be repeated.
I paint with my hands, allowing the materials to guide the work as much as I guide them. The process is intuitive, built through layers of movement until the painting begins to hold a sense of place rather than depict one. The shifting greens, blues and gold suggest water, forests, coastlines and light, but remain open enough for each viewer to discover their own landscape.
For me, Gaia is about connection. Continents may be divided by oceans and political borders, yet the materials remind us that we all belong to the same planet. Every grain of salt, every fragment of gold and every mark within the painting carries the memory of somewhere real. Together they become a quiet reminder that the Earth is not a collection of separate places, but one shared home.
